Job Description

Senior Avocat – Employment Law

Liedekerke on Boulevard de l'Empereur in Brussels is seeking a Senior Avocat for its Employment Law practice. Belgian employment law is uniquely complex, with federal legislation, joint committee (commission paritaire/paritair comité) collective bargaining agreements, and regional competences all intersecting.

You will advise employers on the full spectrum of Belgian employment law, from individual dismissal procedures under the Unified Employment Act (Loi sur le statut unique/Wet op het eenheidsstatuut) to collective restructurings governed by the Renault Law (Loi Renault).

What You Will Do

  • Advise on individual and collective dismissals, including notice periods, severance calculations, and outplacement obligations
  • Handle collective restructurings and closures under the Renault Law (CBA No. 24)
  • Advise on Belgian social elections (elections sociales/sociale verkiezingen)
  • Draft and negotiate employment contracts, non-compete clauses, and management agreements
  • Represent employers before Belgian labour courts (Tribunal du travail/Arbeidsrechtbank)
  • Advise on cross-border employment matters, including posting of workers within the EU

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex employment law mandates for major Belgian and international employers
  • Advise on collective restructuring procedures and negotiate social plans
  • Represent clients in labour court proceedings
  • Advise on Belgian social election processes
  • Train HR teams on Belgian employment law developments and compliance

Requirements

  • Admission to a Belgian Bar required
  • Master in Law from a Belgian university; specialized Master in Social Law is an advantage
  • 7-10 years of experience in Belgian employment and social security law
  • Deep knowledge of the Unified Employment Act, Renault Law, and joint committee CBA system
  • Fluent in French and Dutch (essential for bilingual Brussels labour courts); English required
  • Litigation experience before labour courts and tribunals
