About the Role
International Justice Mission (IJM) Kenya is seeking a Senior Program Attorney to coordinate legal teams in the Justice System Interventions program. The role focuses on delivering robust outcomes for victims of police abuse of power, ensuring high-quality legal services, and holding police accountable through strategic litigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective and professional legal advocacy for IJM clients to hold police accountable for misconduct
- Support and mentor Program Attorneys in delivering quality legal representation
- Build strong partnerships with prosecutors, magistrates, investigators, judges, and civil society partners
- Coordinate development and implementation of legal strategies for system reform goals
- Defend abuse victims in court proceedings across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage case referrals and legal strategy with the senior management team
- Identify emerging legal system needs and advocate for structural changes in Kenya's justice system
- Provide input on program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
Responsibilities

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
- Minimum 8 years post-admission legal professional experience, preferably in criminal, constitutional, and human rights law
- At least 2 years in a coordination or supervisory role over a legal team
- In-depth understanding of Kenya's Constitution and core constitutional principles
- Master's degree in Law or related field is an added advantage
- Advanced computer proficiency (MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Must have legal right to work in Kenya
