Internship Description
The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) offers a paid 12-week legal internship in its Enforcement and Market Supervision teams in Wellington. The FMA is New Zealand's independent financial markets regulator, and this internship provides unique exposure to financial regulation, enforcement investigations, and licensing under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013.
Programme Details
- Duration: 12 weeks (flexible start date)
- Compensation: Paid — approximately NZ$900-1,000/week
- Eligibility: 2nd or 3rd year LLB students at a New Zealand university
What You Will Do
- Assist with market surveillance and monitoring of NZX-listed issuers for continuous disclosure compliance
- Research FMCA 2013 provisions and draft internal briefing papers on regulatory issues
- Support enforcement investigations into market misconduct, insider trading, and misleading conduct
- Attend FMA team meetings and inter-agency liaison sessions with NZX and RBNZ
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of LLB at a New Zealand university
- Interest in financial regulation, securities law, or corporate governance
- Strong academic record (B+ average or above)
- New Zealand citizen or permanent resident preferred
