Internship Description
Chapman Tripp invites applications for its paid Summer Clerkship in the Banking & Finance group at 20 Customhouse Quay, Wellington. Chapman Tripp's Wellington office is one of New Zealand's largest, and the banking team advises on syndicated lending, project finance, and structured finance for major NZ banks and infrastructure clients.
Programme Details
- Duration: 10-12 weeks (November 2026 - February 2027)
- Compensation: Paid — approximately NZ$1,100-1,200/week
- Eligibility: 2nd or 3rd year LLB students at Victoria University of Wellington, University of Otago, or any NZ university
- Application Period: March - July 2026
What You Will Do
- Assist with drafting loan documentation, security agreements, and PPSA registrations
- Research RBNZ regulatory requirements and CCCFA compliance issues
- Attend settlement meetings and client calls on live transactions
- Rotate through banking, projects, and public law teams for broad exposure
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of LLB at a New Zealand university
- Strong academic record (B+ average or above)
- Interest in banking, finance, or infrastructure law
