Internship Description

Legal Internship Programme — Central Bank of Sri Lanka

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) operates a competitive Legal Internship Programme from its headquarters at the Central Bank Building, Fort, Colombo 1. This unpaid 6-month internship is open to law graduates completing their mandatory BASL apprenticeship requirement and provides unparalleled exposure to financial regulation and monetary policy at the national level.

Interns are placed in the Legal and Compliance Department, working alongside CBSL legal officers on banking supervision, foreign exchange regulation under the Foreign Exchange Act, and financial sector enforcement. The programme offers access to the highest levels of Sri Lanka's financial regulatory infrastructure, including exposure to the Monetary Law Act and international monetary cooperation frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist legal officers with research on banking supervision and financial regulation matters
  • Review foreign exchange applications and compliance documentation
  • Research regulatory issues under the Monetary Law Act, Banking Act, and Foreign Exchange Act
  • Attend internal legal department meetings and training sessions
  • Observe enforcement proceedings and regulatory examinations
  • Prepare research memoranda on international central banking legal developments

Requirements

  • LL.B. from a recognised Sri Lankan university or Sri Lanka Law College
  • Eligible for the mandatory 6-month BASL apprenticeship under the Judicature Act
  • Strong academic record in banking law, constitutional law, and administrative law
  • Interest in financial regulation, central banking, and public policy
  • Understanding of the Monetary Law Act and Banking Act
  • English and Sinhala proficiency required
  • Successful completion of the CBSL internship selection process
