Articling Student - Litigation

McCarthy Tetrault LLP is seeking Articling Students for its Litigation department at TD Bank Tower on Bay Street, Toronto. This paid 10-month articling program provides hands-on experience in complex commercial litigation before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and appellate courts.

Program Details

• Duration: 10 months (starting August 2026)
• Compensation: Paid — competitive Bay Street articling salary
• Experience: Commercial litigation, class actions, regulatory proceedings, and appellate work

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare legal research memos, case summaries, and draft motion materials for the Ontario Superior Court of Justice
• Attend examinations for discovery, pre-trial conferences, and court hearings
• Assist with trial preparation including witness preparation, exhibit books, and opening/closing submissions
• Conduct research on the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and evidence law
• Draft correspondence, demand letters, and statements of claim and defence

Eligibility

• JD or LLB candidate graduating in 2026 from a recognized Canadian law school
• Eligible for the Law Society of Ontario Licensing Process
• Demonstrated interest in litigation through moot court or clinical experience
• Strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills
