Stage en Droit Maritime — Madagascar Law Offices
Madagascar Law Offices (MLO) offers a paid stage in maritime and international trade law at its Toamasina office near Madagascar's principal commercial port. This 4-month stage provides specialized exposure to maritime law practice, customs regulation, and international trade compliance in one of the Indian Ocean's busiest port cities.
You will assist the firm's maritime law team with cargo disputes, bill of lading claims, customs classification issues, and shipping contract drafting. The stage includes visits to the Port de Toamasina and interaction with customs authorities, shipping agents, and commodity traders. This is an exceptional opportunity for law students interested in the niche but high-demand field of maritime and trade law in Madagascar.
Responsibilities
- Assist avocats with maritime law research and case preparation
- Draft summaries of cargo dispute cases and shipping law developments
- Support customs classification dispute documentation
- Participate in port visits and observe maritime commercial operations
- Assist with contract drafting for shipping and freight agreements
- Conduct research on COMESA trade regulations and customs procedures
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a law program, ideally with coursework in maritime or commercial law
- Interest in maritime law, international trade, or shipping law
- Fluency in French; English proficiency strongly preferred for international shipping matters
- Strong research and writing skills
- Willingness to be based in Toamasina for the stage duration
- Available for a 4-month full-time commitment
