Stagiaire – EU Competition Law

Linklaters' Brussels office in the European Quarter is offering a stage position in its EU Competition and Antitrust practice. The Belgian Bar requires a three-year mandatory stage period, and this position provides exceptional training in the world's premier jurisdiction for competition law enforcement.

As a stagiaire, you will work alongside some of the most experienced EU competition lawyers in Brussels, gaining hands-on experience with European Commission merger notifications, cartel investigations, and abuse of dominance cases. You will attend hearings at the General Court and CJEU in Luxembourg and participate in dawn raid teams.

What You Will Do

• Assist avocats with EU merger control notifications and Phase II proceedings
• Research EU competition law issues under Articles 101/102 TFEU
• Draft legal memoranda and client advisory notes on competition matters
• Attend oral hearings at DG Competition and the EU courts
• Support dawn raid preparation and response procedures

Training Programme

This stage forms part of the mandatory three-year Belgian bar training period (stage). You will receive structured mentoring, attend BPTC-equivalent bar course sessions organized by the Barreau de Bruxelles or Balie van Brussel, and benefit from Linklaters' international secondment opportunities.

• Support the EU competition team on merger control and cartel matters
• Conduct legal research and draft advisory memoranda
• Attend client meetings, regulatory hearings, and court proceedings
• Participate in the firm's stagiaire training programme and CEPANI modules
• Complete bar course requirements alongside practical training

• Master in Law from a Belgian or European university (UCLouvain, ULB, KU Leuven, UGent, VUB, College of Europe preferred)
• Registered or eligible for registration as stagiaire with the Barreau de Bruxelles or Balie van Brussel
• Strong academic record with demonstrated interest in EU competition law
• Fluent in English and French or Dutch
• LL.M. in EU Law or Competition Law is an advantage
• Previous internship at an EU institution, competition authority, or law firm is desirable
