Summer Clerk — Public Law

Buddle Findlay invites applications for its paid Summer Clerkship in the Public Law group in Wellington. Buddle Findlay is one of New Zealand's strongest government advisory practices, and Wellington clerks gain unique exposure to judicial review, OIA advice, government procurement, and Treaty of Waitangi matters in the political capital.

Programme Details

• Duration: 10-12 weeks (November 2026 - February 2027)
• Compensation: Paid — approximately NZ$1,000-1,200/week
• Eligibility: 2nd or 3rd year LLB students at a New Zealand university (Victoria University of Wellington students especially encouraged)
• Application Period: March - July 2026

What You Will Do

• Research administrative law, judicial review, and OIA/Privacy Act issues for government clients
• Draft opinions and memoranda on public law questions
• Attend Select Committee hearings, court proceedings, and client meetings with government agencies
• Participate in Buddle Findlay's social and professional development programme

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in 2nd or 3rd year of LLB at a New Zealand university
• Strong academic record (B+ average or above)
• Interest in public law, government, or constitutional law
