Job Description

Mayora & Mayora is seeking an Associate for its Employment Law practice in Guatemala City. You will advise employers on labour compliance, collective bargaining, and disputes before the Juzgados de Trabajo y Prevision Social under the Codigo de Trabajo de Guatemala.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on hiring, termination, and severance calculations under the Codigo de Trabajo
  • Draft employment contracts, internal work regulations (reglamentos internos), and HR policies
  • Represent employers before the Inspeccion General de Trabajo and Juzgados de Trabajo
  • Handle collective bargaining negotiations and union relations matters
  • Advise on IGSS (social security) compliance and occupational health regulations

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of employment disputes and advisory matters
  • Attend hearings at the Juzgados de Trabajo y Prevision Social
  • Draft legal opinions on employment law compliance
  • Support the team on HR audits and restructuring projects

Requirements

  • Licenciatura en Ciencias Juridicas y Sociales from a recognised university
  • Colegiado activo with the Colegio de Abogados y Notarios de Guatemala
  • 3-5 years post-qualification experience in Guatemalan labour law
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of the Codigo de Trabajo and IGSS regulations
