Associate — Employment Law

Simpson Grierson is seeking an Associate for its Band 1-ranked Employment Law practice at Level 27, 88 Shortland Street, Auckland, in the Shortland Street legal precinct near the Employment Relations Authority and Auckland District Court. You will advise employers on the Employment Relations Act 2000, personal grievances, restructurings, and health and safety obligations.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on personal grievance claims (unjustified dismissal, disadvantage, discrimination) under the Employment Relations Act 2000
• Draft employment agreements, restraint of trade clauses, and workplace policies compliant with the Holidays Act 2003
• Represent employers before the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) and Employment Court
• Advise on health and safety obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and WorkSafe NZ investigations
• Support restructuring and redundancy processes including good faith obligations under s4 ERA 2000

Requirements

• Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with a current Practising Certificate
• 3-5 years PQE in employment law at a leading firm or specialist employment practice
• Strong knowledge of the Employment Relations Act 2000, Holidays Act 2003, and HSWA 2015
• ERA/Employment Court advocacy experience preferred
