Associate — Public Law & Government

Buddle Findlay is seeking an Associate for its highly regarded Public Law practice in Wellington, New Zealand's political capital and home to Parliament, the Supreme Court, and all central government departments. You will advise government agencies, Crown entities, and state-owned enterprises on judicial review, statutory interpretation, and public procurement.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise government departments and Crown entities on administrative law, including judicial review under the Judicial Review Procedure Act 2016
• Draft and review legislation, regulations, and Cabinet papers for government clients
• Advise on government procurement under the Government Procurement Rules and MBIE frameworks
• Handle Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) requests and Privacy Act 2020 compliance for public sector clients
• Support Treaty of Waitangi settlement negotiations and post-settlement governance matters

Requirements

• Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with a current Practising Certificate
• 3-5 years PQE in public law, government, or regulatory at a leading firm or Crown Law
• Knowledge of the Judicial Review Procedure Act 2016, OIA 1982, and Public Finance Act 1989
• Experience advising government agencies preferred
