Associate — Resource Management & Environment

Simpson Grierson is seeking an Associate for its Resource Management & Environment practice at Level 27, 88 Shortland Street, Auckland. New Zealand's Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) is one of the most litigated pieces of legislation in the country. You will advise on resource consents, plan changes, and Environment Court proceedings for developers, infrastructure providers, and local authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on resource consent applications and plan change processes under the Resource Management Act 1991
• Represent clients before the Environment Court in hearings, mediations, and appeals
• Advise on the transition to the Natural and Built Environment Act (NBA) and Spatial Planning Act (SPA) replacing the RMA
• Handle designations and notice of requirement processes for infrastructure projects
• Advise on climate change obligations under the Climate Change Response Act 2002 and NZ ETS

Requirements

• Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with a current Practising Certificate
• 3-5 years PQE in resource management, environmental, or planning law
• Experience with Environment Court proceedings and RMA processes
• Knowledge of the RMA 1991, EEZ Act, and emerging environmental reform
