Job Description
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree (or equivalent), be an active member in good standing of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and be a U.S. citizen or national. Applicants must have the years of post J.D. (or equivalent) legal experience for the specific grade level requirements listed below: GS-12: At least 1 year post-J.D. experience or post clerkship litigation, significant litigation experience, or substantive experience as a legal advisor in the assessment of legal authorities and resources. GS-13: At least 1.5 years post-J.D. experience or post clerkship litigation, significant litigation experience, or substantive experience as a legal advisor in the assessment of legal authorities and resources. GS-14: At least 2.5 years post-J.D. experience or post clerkship litigation, significant litigation experience, or substantive experience as a legal advisor in the assessment of legal authorities and resources. GS-15: At least 4 years post-J.D. experience or post clerkship litigation, significant litigation experience, or substantive experience as a legal advisor in the assessment of legal authorities and resources. The Division's docket is demanding and requires top caliber work products. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated record of analysis of complex legal problems, initiative and creativity, and a commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards. Applicants must also demonstrate outstanding legal research, analytical, and writing abilities, good judgment, and be able to balance a diverse and constantly evolving workload. Ability to work and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is essential. Litigation experience (trial or appellate court) and judicial clerkship experience is desired. Experience in one or more of the Division's substantive areas of responsibility (environmental, natural resources, public lands, and Indian law, and/or other constitutional, ethics, FOIA, or administrative law topics) is preferred. The possible salary range is: GS-12 ($102,415 - $133,142) GS-13 ($121,785 - $158,322) GS-14 ($143,913 - $187,093) GS-15 ($169,279 - $197,200) YOUR RESUME MUST provide specific details as to how your experience meets the specialized experience as described in the vacancy announcement if you are using experience to meet all or part of the qualification requirements.
