Job Description
Banking & Finance Associate — Baker McKenzie, Baghdad
Baker McKenzie's Iraq practice is recruiting a Banking & Finance Associate to advise on project finance, Islamic finance, and banking regulatory matters in one of the Middle East's fastest-growing banking sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on project finance transactions for infrastructure, energy, and telecommunications projects in Iraq
- Draft and negotiate loan agreements, security packages, and intercreditor arrangements
- Advise on Islamic finance structures including murabaha, ijara, and sukuk transactions
- Support banking regulatory compliance with Central Bank of Iraq regulations
- Handle anti-money laundering (AML) and sanctions compliance matters
- Advise on microfinance and fintech regulatory developments in Iraq
- Support capital markets transactions including government bond issuances

Requirements
- Law degree from a recognized institution; LLM in banking/finance law preferred
- 3-6 years of banking and finance legal experience in Iraq or the wider Middle East
- Knowledge of Central Bank of Iraq regulations and Iraqi Banking Law
- Understanding of Islamic finance principles and structures
- Strong English and Arabic drafting skills
- Experience with international project finance transactions
- Knowledge of AML/CFT regulations in Iraq
