Job Description

Environmental & Sustainability Lawyer

Qatar Energy is hiring an Environmental & Sustainability Lawyer to join its Legal Department in Doha. As the world's largest LNG producer, Qatar Energy is committed to environmental stewardship and has set ambitious sustainability targets aligned with Qatar Vision 2030. This role involves advising on environmental regulatory compliance, carbon trading frameworks, and sustainability reporting obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on compliance with Qatar's Environmental Protection Law (Law No. 30 of 2002) and Ministry of Environment regulations
  • Draft and review environmental impact assessment (EIA) documentation for new projects
  • Advise on carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) regulatory frameworks
  • Support Qatar Energy's participation in international climate agreements and carbon trading schemes
  • Handle environmental permits and approvals for upstream, midstream, and downstream operations
  • Advise on ESG reporting requirements and sustainability disclosure obligations

Responsibilities

  • Manage environmental legal compliance across Qatar Energy's operations
  • Prepare legal opinions on new environmental regulations and their operational impact
  • Coordinate with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on permitting matters
  • Draft environmental clauses for EPC contracts and joint venture agreements
  • Contribute to Qatar Energy's annual sustainability report

Requirements

  • 4-7 years PQE in environmental law, energy law, or sustainability regulation
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation in Qatar or the GCC region
  • Experience with carbon trading, CCUS, or emissions regulation
  • Familiarity with international environmental conventions and Paris Agreement obligations
  • Qualified in a common law or civil law jurisdiction
  • Fluent English essential; Arabic advantageous
