Job Description

Antitrust & Competition Partner-Track Senior Associate — Freshfields, City of London

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is seeking a partner-track Senior Associate for its globally top-ranked Antitrust, Competition and Trade practice at 100 Bishopsgate, London. The practice is consistently ranked Band 1 by Chambers Global and advises on the most complex and high-stakes competition matters worldwide.

You will lead teams on major merger control investigations before the CMA and European Commission, cartel defence proceedings, and competition litigation in the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) and Supreme Court. This is a career-defining opportunity for an ambitious competition lawyer with partnership aspirations.

Recent Mandates

  • Defence of a major technology company in CMA Phase 2 merger investigation
  • Cartel immunity application and leniency proceedings before the European Commission
  • Competition damages action in the CAT valued at over GBP 1 billion

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex merger control proceedings before the CMA and international competition authorities
  • Manage cartel investigations and coordinate multi-jurisdictional leniency applications
  • Conduct competition litigation and damages actions before the CAT
  • Advise on the competition aspects of major M&A transactions
  • Develop and maintain senior client relationships across the competition practice
  • Manage and mentor a team of associates and trainees

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister of England and Wales with 8-12 years PQE in competition law
  • Extensive experience in CMA and European Commission merger control proceedings
  • Proven track record in cartel investigations, leniency applications, and competition litigation
  • Deep knowledge of the Competition Act 1998, Enterprise Act 2002, and DMCC Act 2024
  • Experience before the Competition Appeal Tribunal and appellate courts
  • Strong business development skills and established client relationships
