Job Description
The Department of Justice of the Hong Kong SAR Government is recruiting Government Counsel for its headquarters at Justice Place, 18 Lower Albert Road, Central. With over 400 lawyers, the Department handles criminal prosecutions, civil litigation, legal policy, and legislative drafting. This role offers unique exposure to public law, constitutional matters, and Hong Kong Basic Law issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Prosecute criminal cases in the Magistrates Courts, District Court, and High Court
- Advise Government bureaux and departments on legal and policy matters
- Draft primary and subsidiary legislation for the Legislative Council
- Handle civil litigation on behalf of the Government in the High Court and Court of Final Appeal
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor or barrister admitted in Hong Kong
- 2-5 years PQE in criminal law, civil litigation, or advisory work
- Strong Chinese and English language skills required
