Job Description
Equity Group, one of Africa's largest financial services groups, seeks a Head of Legal to oversee legal affairs across its East African subsidiaries in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, DRC, and South Sudan. The role reports to the Group General Counsel and manages a team of 8 in-house lawyers.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic legal counsel to the Group CEO and Board on banking, insurance, and fintech operations. Oversee regulatory engagement with CBK, IRA, CMA, and regional regulators. Manage litigation portfolio across 6 jurisdictions. Lead M&A and corporate restructuring initiatives. Develop and implement legal risk management framework.
Requirements
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. 10+ years legal experience with at least 5 years in financial services. Deep knowledge of CBK prudential guidelines, Banking Act, and regional banking regulations. People management experience essential.
