Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced Trial Paralegal to join our Employment Litigation department and play a hands-on role in civil trial preparation from day one. This is not a back-office, file-management position — it’s a role for someone who thrives in the energy of trial prep, takes ownership of their cases, and brings real litigation experience to the table.
If you have a background in civil litigation and trial preparation — and you want to do meaningful work alongside passionate employment attorneys — we want to meet you. Civil litigation trial preparation experience is strongly preferred.
You’ll be embedded in our Employment Litigation team, working directly with attorneys to support all phases of the litigation cycle — with an emphasis on trial preparation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and organizing trial binders, exhibit lists, witness files, and all trial materials for civil employment cases
- Drafting, proofreading, and filing legal documents including motions, pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and subpoenas
- Managing discovery processes: propounding and responding to discovery, tracking deadlines, and organizing productions
- Coordinating depositions, including scheduling, preparing deposition outlines and summaries, and handling logistics
- Conducting legal research and summarizing findings to support attorney strategy
- E-filing documents with state and federal courts; managing court deadlines and ensuring compliance with local rules
- Communicating professionally with clients, opposing counsel, expert witnesses, and court staff
- Maintaining organized electronic and physical case files with accuracy and accessibility
- Assisting attorneys with jury instruction preparation, verdict form drafting, and trial timeline coordination
- Supporting pre-trial motions, including motions in limine, and tracking all case-related statutes of limitations
We care about who you are as much as what you know. The strongest candidates for this role are:
- Trial-ready — you know what it takes to prepare a case for court and you’ve done it before
- Detail-obsessed — you track every deadline, every exhibit number, and every filing requirement
- Proactive communicators — you keep attorneys and clients informed without being asked
- Calm under pressure — litigation moves fast and you stay steady when it counts
- Independently driven — you take ownership of your work and follow through without hand-holding
- Team-oriented — you collaborate across attorneys, legal staff, and departments with professionalism
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 2+ years of paralegal experience in a civil litigation environment
- Strong knowledge of California civil court procedures, rules, and filing requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal document management systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate, Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
Strongly Preferred:
- Civil litigation trial preparation experience — strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience preparing trial exhibits, binders, jury instructions, and witness materials
- Familiarity with California employment law matters (discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage & hour)
- Experience with e-filing platforms (One Legal, File & ServeXpress, or similar)
- Proficiency in case management software (Clio, MyCase, or similar)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
