Job Description

Real Estate & Tourism Law Attorney — Juristconsult Chambers

Juristconsult Chambers seeks an Attorney specialising in real estate and tourism law for its Port Louis office. Mauritius's property market is one of the most active in the Indian Ocean region, with Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES), and Smart City developments transforming the island's coastline and interior — and creating intense demand for specialist property lawyers.

The Attorney will advise on real estate transactions governed by the Code Civil Mauricien's property provisions, the Non-Citizens (Property Restriction) Act 1975, and the Economic Development Board's IRS/RES/Smart City frameworks. Mauritius's tourism sector — hotels, resorts, and mixed-use developments — generates substantial conveyancing, leasing, and regulatory work under the Tourism Authority Act 2006 and the Environment Protection Act 2002.

Responsibilities

  • Handle conveyancing for real estate transactions under the Code Civil Mauricien
  • Advise on IRS, RES, and Smart City property acquisitions including foreign purchaser compliance
  • Draft lease agreements, hotel management contracts, and tourism development documentation
  • Conduct title searches and due diligence at the Registrar General's Office
  • Advise on environmental compliance under the Environment Protection Act 2002 for development projects
  • Represent clients in property disputes before the Supreme Court of Mauritius

Requirements

  • Attorney admitted by the Mauritius Bar Council with 3–6 years' post-admission experience
  • Knowledge of Mauritian property law under the Code Civil Mauricien and Inscription of Privileges and Mortgages Act
  • Experience with IRS, RES, and Smart City property development frameworks
  • Understanding of the Non-Citizens (Property Restriction) Act 1975 and foreign ownership regulations
  • Familiarity with the Tourism Authority Act 2006 and hospitality sector licensing
  • LL.B. from a recognised institution; French law or property law specialisation preferred
  • Bilingual English and French required
