Job Description
Petrol d.d., the largest Slovenian energy company and a leading energy group in Southeastern Europe listed on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for our Energy & Environmental legal team in Ljubljana. Petrol is transforming from a traditional petroleum company into a comprehensive energy provider with major investments in renewable energy, e-mobility, and energy efficiency.
The role involves advising on the Energetski zakon (EZ-1, Energy Act), Zakon o varstvu okolja (ZVO-2, Environmental Protection Act), and EU energy and climate regulations. You will support Petrol's green transition strategy, including investments in solar parks, hydrogen infrastructure, EV charging networks, and emissions trading under the EU ETS.
Responsibilities
Advise on Petrol's renewable energy investments, including solar, wind, and hydrogen projects across Slovenia and the region. Draft and negotiate power purchase agreements, EPC contracts, and project finance documentation. Advise on environmental compliance, including EIA procedures, IPPC permits, and EU ETS obligations. Support regulatory matters before the Agencija za energijo (Energy Agency) and the Ministrstvo za okolje, podnebje in energijo (Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy). Coordinate legal support for Petrol Group companies across Southeastern Europe.
Requirements
Magister prava or equivalent. Admission to the Odvetniška zbornica Slovenije preferred but not required. 6-9 years of experience in energy, environmental, or infrastructure law. Expert knowledge of EZ-1 (Energy Act) and ZVO-2 (Environmental Protection Act). Experience with renewable energy project development and EU ETS compliance. Fluent in Slovenian and English.
