Human Rights Law Internship — Commission on Human Rights Philippines
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) offers an internship program for law students committed to human rights advocacy and public interest law. Based at the CHR headquarters in Quezon City, interns will gain firsthand experience in human rights investigation, legal assistance, and advocacy work.
Internship Details
- Duration: 2-3 months
- Compensation: Unpaid internship with transportation and meal allowances
- Schedule: Full-time during summer; part-time during academic year
- Eligibility: Open to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year law students
Key Responsibilities
- Assist CHR lawyers in investigating human rights complaints and preparing case documentation
- Conduct research on Philippine human rights laws, the 1987 Constitution (Bill of Rights), and international human rights conventions
- Help prepare legal submissions for cases before Philippine courts and UN treaty bodies
- Participate in community human rights education and outreach programs
- Assist in monitoring detention facilities and conducting jail visits
- Draft reports on human rights conditions and thematic investigations

Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a J.D. or LL.B. program at a recognized Philippine law school (2nd year and above)
- Strong interest in human rights, constitutional law, or public interest advocacy
- Excellent English and Filipino communication skills
- Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to social justice
- Legal aid clinic experience is an advantage
- Must be able to commit to at least 2 months
- Philippine citizenship required
