Intellectual Property Law Apprenticeship — Tiruchelvam Associates

Tiruchelvam Associates, Colombo's premier intellectual property boutique, offers a 6-month paid apprenticeship in its IP & Technology Law practice in Colombo 7. This apprenticeship fulfils the mandatory 6-month requirement for admission to the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) and provides specialised training in one of Sri Lanka's fastest-growing practice areas.

The apprentice will gain hands-on experience with trademark prosecution at the National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO), copyright advisory, technology licensing, and IP litigation under the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003. • Assist with trademark applications and prosecution before the National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO)
• Research IP law issues under the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003
• Draft basic technology licensing agreements and copyright assignment documentation
• Monitor trademark databases for potential infringements and conflicts
• Assist with IP due diligence for investment and M&A transactions
• Attend IP-related court hearings at the Commercial High Court

• LL.B. from a recognised Sri Lankan university or Sri Lanka Law College
• Eligible for the mandatory 6-month BASL apprenticeship
• Strong interest in intellectual property, technology, and innovation law
• Knowledge of the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003
• Good academic record in IP law, commercial law, and international law
• English fluency required for international IP correspondence
• Commitment to the full 6-month apprenticeship duration
