Legal Department Internship — Commercial Bank of Ceylon (Kandy)
Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka's largest private-sector bank, offers a 6-month paid internship in its Central Region Legal Department based in Kandy — Sri Lanka's cultural capital and the seat of the Kandyan Kingdom. This internship is open to law graduates completing their BASL apprenticeship as well as penultimate-year law students seeking practical banking law exposure.
The intern will rotate through the bank's regional legal sub-units including credit documentation, recovery, and compliance. You will gain exposure to the Banking Act, Central Bank regulations, Parate Execution proceedings, and unique Kandyan property law matters — with access to the District Court of Kandy and upcountry Land Registry offices.
Responsibilities
- Rotate through credit documentation, recovery, compliance, and corporate legal sub-units
- Review basic loan documentation and security instruments under supervision
- Assist with document filing for court proceedings at the District Court of Colombo
- Research banking regulatory issues under the Banking Act and Central Bank directives
- Observe credit committee meetings and compliance review processes
- Prepare summaries and filing documentation for the legal department
Requirements
- LL.B. student (penultimate or final year) or graduate eligible for BASL apprenticeship
- Interest in banking and finance law
- Basic knowledge of the Banking Act and commercial law principles
- Good academic record with attention to detail
- English and Sinhala proficiency required
- Ability to commit to the full 6-month internship period
- No prior professional legal experience required
