Legal Intern – IP & Sustainability Law

Umicore at its Hoboken site in Antwerp offers a legal internship focusing on intellectual property and sustainability law. As a global leader in clean mobility materials and precious metals recycling, Umicore sits at the intersection of technology innovation and EU sustainability regulation.

This internship provides hands-on experience with patent portfolio management for battery and catalyst technologies, EU REACH chemical regulation compliance, and the rapidly evolving EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) framework.

What You Will Do

• Assist with patent and trademark portfolio management for clean technology innovations
• Research EU sustainability regulation including CSRD, CSDDD, and EU Taxonomy
• Support REACH/CLP chemical regulation compliance activities
• Draft internal advisory notes on IP and sustainability legal matters
• Assist with due diligence on supply chain sustainability obligations

• Support the legal team on IP and sustainability matters
• Conduct legal research on EU sustainability and environmental regulation
• Assist with IP portfolio management activities
• Draft research memoranda and internal advisory notes
• Complete assigned research projects on emerging regulatory frameworks

• Enrolled in or recently completed Master in Law at a Belgian university
• Interest in IP law, environmental law, or sustainability regulation
• Fluent in Dutch and English; French is an advantage
• Interest in materials technology, clean energy, or circular economy
• Good research and analytical skills
