Internship Description
Alta QIL+4 offers a Legal Internship in its Mining & Environmental practice in Guatemala City. You will assist attorneys with mining licence research, environmental impact assessment reviews, and regulatory compliance for extractive industry clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Research mining legislation, MEM regulations, and MARN environmental requirements
- Assist with environmental impact assessment documentation and reviews
- Support due diligence on mining concessions and land rights
- Draft basic legal memoranda on mining and environmental topics
- Monitor regulatory developments in Guatemala's extractive sector
Responsibilities
- Support attorneys on active mining and environmental matters
- Compile regulatory research and legislative tracking reports
- Assist with document organization for MARN and MEM submissions
- Participate in field visits to mining operations (when available)
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Licenciatura en Ciencias Juridicas y Sociales at a recognised Guatemalan university
- Completed at least 6th semester
- Interest in mining, energy, or environmental law
- Proficiency in Spanish; English skills preferred
- Knowledge of ILO Convention 169 and indigenous rights an advantage
