Internship Description

Regulatory Affairs Trainee

The FSMA (Financial Services and Markets Authority) on the Rue du Congrès in Brussels offers a traineeship in its Regulatory Affairs department. This is an outstanding opportunity to gain experience in financial market regulation and investor protection at Belgium's conduct-of-business supervisor.

As a trainee, you will assist legal specialists with prospectus reviews, market supervision activities, and regulatory policy analysis. The FSMA's central location in Brussels and cooperation with ESMA and other EU regulators provides exposure to both Belgian and European financial regulation.

What You Will Do

  • Assist with prospectus reviews for public offerings on Euronext Brussels
  • Research Belgian and EU financial regulation (MAR, MiFID II, Prospectus Regulation)
  • Support market supervision and investor protection activities
  • Draft summaries of regulatory decisions and ESMA guidance
  • Assist with administrative and policy research projects

Responsibilities

  • Support the regulatory team on market supervision activities
  • Conduct legal research on Belgian and EU financial regulation
  • Draft research memoranda and regulatory summaries
  • Attend internal meetings and training sessions
  • Complete assigned regulatory analysis projects

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or recently completed Master in Law at a Belgian university
  • Interest in financial regulation, securities law, or capital markets
  • Fluent in French or Dutch; English required
  • Belgian or EU citizenship preferred (public sector role)
  • Good analytical and writing skills
  • Knowledge of basic financial instruments and markets is an advantage
