Anderson Mōri & Tomotsune (AMT) is seeking a bengoshi to join its Competition & Antitrust Practice Group in Otemachi, Tokyo. AMT's antitrust team is consistently ranked as a top-tier practice and advises on JFTC investigations, merger control, and competition compliance across all major industries.

About the Role

You will advise clients on compliance with the Antimonopoly Act (独占禁止法 / Dokusen Kinshi-hō) and the Subcontract Act (下請法), and represent clients in investigations by the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC / 公正取引委員会). The role includes pre-merger notification filings, cartel investigations, abuse of dominance matters, and competition compliance programme design.

From our Otemachi office, you will work on high-profile investigations and merger reviews that shape market competition across Japan. You will also advise on the growing intersection of competition law and digital platforms, including the Transparency Act for Digital Platforms (特定デジタルプラットフォームの透明性及び公正性の向上に関する法律).

Practice Areas

• JFTC investigation defence and leniency applications
• Pre-merger notification filings and merger control review
• Abuse of dominant position and unfair trade practices advisory
• Competition compliance programmes and dawn raid preparedness
• Digital platform regulation and Transparency Act compliance

• Advise clients on Antimonopoly Act compliance and risk mitigation
• Prepare pre-merger notification filings and coordinate with the JFTC
• Represent clients in JFTC investigations including leniency applications
• Design and implement competition compliance programmes
• Conduct antitrust due diligence in M&A transactions
• Advise on digital platform competition issues and regulatory developments
• Prepare client alerts and contribute to firm publications on competition law

• Registered bengoshi (弁護士) with the JFBA (日本弁護士連合会)
• 4-7 years of post-qualification experience in competition law or regulatory practice
• Completion of Shihō Kenshūjo (司法研修所) training
• Strong knowledge of the Antimonopoly Act (独占禁止法) and JFTC guidelines
• Experience with merger control filings or cartel investigations preferred
• Working-level English for cross-border competition matters
• Economics background or understanding of industrial organisation advantageous
