Job Description
Schoenherr Ljubljana is recruiting an Associate for our Dispute Resolution practice. You will represent clients in commercial litigation before Slovenian courts, international arbitration proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, handling matters across the CEE region from our Ljubljana office.
The role involves working with the Zakon o pravdnem postopku (ZPP, Civil Procedure Act), Zakon o arbitrazi (ZArbit, Arbitration Act), and international arbitration rules. Slovenia is home to the Stalna arbitraža pri Gospodarski zbornici Slovenije (Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Chamber of Commerce), an increasingly important dispute resolution venue for Central European commercial disputes.
Responsibilities
Represent clients in commercial litigation before the Okrozno sodišče (District Court) and Višje sodišče (Higher Court). Handle international arbitration proceedings under ICC, LCIA, and Ljubljana Arbitration Centre rules. Draft pleadings, witness statements, and legal memoranda for complex commercial disputes. Advise on enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards under the Brussels I Regulation and New York Convention. Support pre-litigation strategy, including injunctive relief and evidence preservation measures.
Requirements
Magister prava and admission to the Odvetniška zbornica Slovenije or equivalent. 3-6 years of experience in commercial litigation or international arbitration. Strong knowledge of ZPP (Civil Procedure Act) and ZArbit (Arbitration Act). Experience with ICC, LCIA, or institutional arbitration proceedings. Fluent in Slovenian and English; German is preferred.
