Job Description
Schoenherr Ljubljana, part of one of the leading law firms in Central and Southeastern Europe, is seeking a Senior Associate for our EU & Competition Law practice. You will advise clients on Slovenian and EU competition law, state aid, public procurement, and regulatory matters in the Slovenian and broader CEE market.
The role involves advising on merger control filings before the Javna agencija RS za varstvo konkurence (AVK), antitrust compliance, and state aid notifications to the European Commission. With Slovenia's strategic position as an EU member state at the crossroads of Western and Southeastern Europe, the practice handles complex cross-border competition matters across the region.
Responsibilities
Lead competition law matters, including merger control filings before AVK and the European Commission. Advise on antitrust compliance, cartel investigations, and abuse of dominance proceedings. Handle state aid matters and notifications to the European Commission. Advise on public procurement under the Zakon o javnem narocanju (ZJN-3, Public Procurement Act). Coordinate with Schoenherr offices across CEE on multi-jurisdictional competition matters.
Requirements
Magister prava or LL.M. in EU law or competition law. Admission to the Odvetniška zbornica Slovenije or equivalent qualification. 5-8 years of experience in competition law or EU law at a leading firm. Expert knowledge of the Zakon o preprečevanju omejevanja konkurence (ZPOmK-2, Competition Act) and EU competition law. Fluent in Slovenian and English; German is a strong advantage.
