Job Description
Baker McKenzie's Stockholm office at Vasagatan 7 near Stockholm Central Station is seeking an Associate for its Employment & Labour practice. Sweden's employment law framework is uniquely characterised by strong collective bargaining traditions and the interplay of Lag om anställningsskydd (LAS — Employment Protection Act), Medbestämmandelagen (MBL — Co-Determination Act), and industry-wide kollektivavtal (collective agreements). You will advise Swedish and multinational employers on the full spectrum of Swedish employment law.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on dismissals, redundancies (uppsägning), and turordningsregler (priority rules) under LAS, including the 2022 LAS reform
- Handle MBL consultation obligations with trade unions including förhandlingsskyldighet (duty to negotiate)
- Draft and negotiate employment contracts, non-compete clauses, and executive compensation arrangements
- Advise multinational clients on Swedish works council requirements and EU Directive implementation
- Support M&A transactions with employment due diligence and virksomhetsövergång (TUPE transfer) analysis
Requirements
- Swedish juristexamen; 3-5 years PQE in employment law
- Strong knowledge of LAS (including 2022 reform), MBL, and diskrimineringslagen (Discrimination Act)
- Experience with collective agreement negotiations and Arbetsdomstolen (Labour Court) proceedings
- Fluent in Swedish and English
