Associate – IP & Technology at Hogan Lovells Warsaw
Hogan Lovells' Warsaw office, located in the Spektrum Tower on ul. Twarda in the heart of Warsaw's developing business district near Rondo Daszyńskiego, is seeking an Associate for our Intellectual Property & Technology practice. The team advises on the full spectrum of IP, TMT, and data protection matters.
About the Role
You will advise clients on intellectual property transactions, technology licensing, and digital law matters. The role covers patent, trade mark, and copyright law under the Prawo własności przemysłowej (Industrial Property Law) and Ustawa o prawie autorskim i prawach pokrewnych (Copyright Act), as well as technology contracts including SaaS agreements, software licensing, and outsourcing arrangements.
A significant part of the role involves advising on data protection compliance under RODO (the Polish implementation of GDPR) and the Ustawa o ochronie danych osobowych, including data processing agreements, DPIAs, and UODO (Urząd Ochrony Danych Osobowych) proceedings. You will also handle trade mark prosecution before the Urząd Patentowy RP and EUIPO.
Responsibilities
- Advise on IP transactions including licensing, assignments, and commercialisation agreements
- Draft and negotiate technology contracts: SaaS, software licensing, IT outsourcing, and development agreements
- Advise on RODO/GDPR compliance including DPIAs, data processing agreements, and breach notifications
- Handle trade mark and patent prosecution before Urząd Patentowy RP and EUIPO
- Represent clients in IP disputes before Polish courts (Sąd Okręgowy w Warszawie XXII Wydział — the IP court)
- Support clients with UODO proceedings and data protection compliance audits
Requirements
- Qualified adwokat or radca prawny with 3-5 years PQE in IP, technology, or data protection law
- Strong knowledge of Prawo własności przemysłowej, Ustawa o prawie autorskim, and RODO/GDPR
- Experience with technology transactions (SaaS, licensing, outsourcing) and IP commercialisation
- Familiarity with Urząd Patentowy RP and EUIPO trade mark prosecution procedures
- Understanding of e-commerce regulations and digital services legislation
- Fluent Polish and English (C1+); experience with international IP portfolios
