Job Description
Alta QIL+4 seeks an Associate for its Mining & Natural Resources practice in Guatemala City. You will advise mining companies, energy developers, and infrastructure investors on licensing, environmental compliance, and community engagement under the Ley de Mineria and Ministerio de Energia y Minas (MEM) regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on mining exploration and exploitation licences before the MEM
- Draft concession agreements, joint operating agreements, and royalty arrangements
- Handle environmental impact assessments (EIA) and MARN compliance requirements
- Advise on indigenous community consultation processes under ILO Convention 169
- Support project finance transactions for mining and energy projects
Responsibilities
- Manage mining licence applications and renewals
- Coordinate environmental compliance with MARN and MEM
- Draft land access and surface rights agreements
- Support cross-border resource transactions across Central America
Requirements
- Licenciatura en Ciencias Juridicas y Sociales from a recognised university
- Colegiado activo with the Colegio de Abogados y Notarios de Guatemala
- 3-5 years post-qualification experience in mining, energy, or environmental law
- Fluent in Spanish and English
- Knowledge of the Ley de Mineria (Decreto 48-97) and MEM regulatory framework
