Maralex Legal in Toamasina is seeking an Avocat specializing in environmental law to serve clients across the Atsinanana region. Given Toamasina's proximity to the Ambatovy mining complex and its unique biodiversity hotspots, environmental law practice in this region is both critical and growing. You will advise mining companies, agricultural enterprises, and tourism operators on environmental impact assessments (EIA), environmental permits from the Office National pour l'Environnement (ONE), and compliance with the Charte de l'Environnement Malagasy.

The role involves navigating Madagascar's complex environmental regulatory framework, including the MECIE decree (Mise en Compatibilité des Investissements avec l'Environnement), protected area regulations, and community forestry management agreements. You will also advise on carbon credit projects and REDD+ mechanisms in Madagascar's eastern rainforest corridors.

• Advise clients on environmental regulatory compliance and permitting
• Guide clients through environmental impact assessment procedures with ONE
• Draft and review environmental management plans and rehabilitation commitments
• Represent clients in environmental disputes and enforcement actions
• Advise on protected area regulations and community forestry management
• Counsel on carbon credit projects, REDD+ mechanisms, and biodiversity offsets
• Liaise with ONE, Ministry of Environment, and regional environmental authorities

• CAPA certification and enrollment at the Barreau de Toamasina or Barreau d'Antananarivo
• 3-6 years of experience in environmental law, natural resources law, or related fields
• Knowledge of Madagascar's Charte de l'Environnement, MECIE decree, and ONE procedures
• Experience with environmental impact assessments and environmental permits
• Understanding of mining environmental obligations and rehabilitation requirements
• Fluency in French and Malagasy; English proficiency for international clients
• Familiarity with carbon credit mechanisms and REDD+ projects is a plus
