Job Description

Banking & Islamic Finance Associate

Al Tamimi & Company's Doha office is recruiting a Banking & Islamic Finance Associate to join our financial services practice. You will work on conventional and Sharia-compliant financing transactions, advising banks, financial institutions, and sovereign entities on lending, project finance, and Islamic finance structures in Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate facility agreements, security documents, and intercreditor arrangements for conventional financing
  • Advise on Islamic finance structures including Murabaha, Ijara, Istisna'a, and Sukuk issuances
  • Support project finance mandates for Qatar's energy and infrastructure sectors
  • Conduct regulatory analysis under Qatar Central Bank directives and QFC Banking Regulations
  • Advise on anti-money laundering compliance under Qatar's AML/CFT Law (Law No. 20 of 2019)

Location

Based in our West Bay office in the heart of Doha's financial district, with proximity to QNB, QCB, and other major financial institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and review lending documentation for conventional and Islamic facilities
  • Conduct legal due diligence on borrowers and security packages
  • Prepare legal opinions on enforceability of security under Qatar law
  • Liaise with Qatar Central Bank on regulatory matters affecting transactions
  • Support the team on QFC-regulated fund finance mandates

Requirements

  • 3-5 years PQE in banking and finance law at a reputable international or regional firm
  • Experience with Islamic finance structures (Murabaha, Ijara, Sukuk) preferred
  • Familiarity with Qatar Central Bank regulations and QFC Banking Business Prudential Rules
  • Qualified in a common law jurisdiction or admitted to the Qatar Bar
  • Excellent drafting skills in English; Arabic proficiency is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment
