Job Description

Employment & Immigration Associate

Dentons' Doha office is hiring an Employment & Immigration Associate to advise employers and employees on Qatar's evolving labour law landscape. Qatar has undertaken significant labour reforms in recent years, and this role involves advising on compliance with the new Labour Law provisions, QFC employment regulations, and immigration requirements for Qatar's large expatriate workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on employment contracts, termination procedures, and end-of-service benefits under Qatar Labour Law (Law No. 14 of 2004, as amended)
  • Handle employment disputes before the Labour Dispute Resolution Committees and Qatar courts
  • Advise QFC-registered entities on QFC Employment Regulations, which operate independently of Qatar's Labour Law
  • Guide employers on Qatar's kafala (sponsorship) system reforms and Wage Protection System compliance
  • Advise on work permits, residence permits, and exit visa requirements for expatriate employees
  • Support restructuring and redundancy processes in compliance with Qatar law

Responsibilities

  • Draft employment contracts, policies, and handbooks compliant with Qatar law
  • Represent clients in labour dispute proceedings
  • Advise on immigration and visa requirements for employees and dependents
  • Conduct compliance audits on employment practices and Wage Protection System adherence
  • Prepare legal memoranda on Qatar labour law reform developments

Requirements

  • 3-5 years PQE in employment law, preferably with GCC experience
  • Knowledge of Qatar Labour Law (Law No. 14 of 2004) and recent amendments
  • Familiarity with QFC Employment Regulations
  • Qualified in a common law or civil law jurisdiction
  • Fluent English required; Arabic skills advantageous
  • Experience advising multinational employers on workforce management
