Job Description

QFC Regulatory & Financial Services Lawyer

Dentons' Doha office is seeking a QFC Regulatory & Financial Services Lawyer to advise clients on authorisation, compliance, and regulatory matters within the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC). The QFC is Qatar's international financial hub, offering a common law-based regulatory framework, and this role provides exposure to a dynamic and rapidly growing financial centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on QFC authorisation applications for banking, insurance, asset management, and financial advisory firms
  • Guide clients through QFCRA licensing requirements and ongoing regulatory obligations
  • Advise on QFC Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Rules
  • Handle regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings before the QFC Regulatory Tribunal
  • Draft and review compliance policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks for QFC-regulated entities
  • Advise on cross-border regulatory matters involving coordination between the QFCRA, Qatar Central Bank, and QFMA

Responsibilities

  • Lead QFC regulatory advisory mandates from scoping to completion
  • Develop the firm's QFC regulatory practice and client base
  • Prepare regulatory submissions and respond to QFCRA inquiries on behalf of clients
  • Deliver training and thought leadership on QFC regulatory developments
  • Coordinate with Dentons' global financial services regulatory practice

Requirements

  • 7+ years PQE in financial services regulation or compliance
  • Deep knowledge of QFC regulatory framework, including QFC Law No. 7 of 2005
  • Experience with DFSA (DIFC), FCA (UK), or equivalent financial regulators advantageous
  • Qualified in a common law jurisdiction (England & Wales, Australia, or equivalent)
  • Fluent English essential; Arabic proficiency a significant advantage
  • Understanding of both QFC and Qatar domestic regulatory regimes
