Job Description

Employment & Labour Law Counsel — IBL Group

IBL Group, the largest conglomerate in Mauritius by revenue, seeks an Employment & Labour Law Counsel for its Group Legal Division at IBL House, Caudan, Port Louis. With over 26,000 employees across 300+ subsidiaries in Mauritius and internationally, IBL has one of the most substantial employment law practices of any private-sector employer in the Indian Ocean region.

The Counsel will advise on the Workers' Rights Act 2019 — Mauritius's comprehensive employment legislation — including employment contracts, termination procedures, redundancy, workplace health and safety, and industrial relations. The role extends to managing employment litigation before the Industrial Court of Mauritius and advising on human resource policies across IBL's diverse sectors including seafood, logistics, financial services, retail, and real estate.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on employment matters under the Workers' Rights Act 2019 across IBL Group subsidiaries
  • Handle employment disputes and represent IBL before the Industrial Court of Mauritius
  • Draft employment contracts, termination letters, and redundancy documentation
  • Advise on workplace health and safety compliance and Equal Opportunities Act 2008 obligations
  • Develop HR policies and employment law training for IBL's 26,000+ workforce
  • Manage employment aspects of M&A transactions including TUPE-equivalent transfers

Requirements

  • Barrister or Attorney admitted by the Mauritius Bar Council with 4–7 years' post-admission experience
  • Specialist knowledge of the Workers' Rights Act 2019 and Mauritian employment law
  • Experience with the Industrial Court of Mauritius and employment dispute resolution
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and Equal Opportunities Act 2008
  • In-house or law firm employment law advisory experience preferred
  • LL.B. from a recognised institution; employment law or HR specialisation advantageous
  • Bilingual English and French required; Creole proficiency beneficial
