Job Description

Banco Industrial, Guatemala's largest private bank, is seeking an In-House Counsel for its Legal Department in Guatemala City. You will advise on banking regulatory compliance, SIB reporting, and product development for consumer and commercial banking operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise business units on compliance with the Ley de Bancos y Grupos Financieros
  • Review and approve new banking products and financial services for regulatory compliance
  • Prepare regulatory filings and reports for the Superintendencia de Bancos (SIB)
  • Draft and review loan documentation, guarantees, and collateral agreements
  • Coordinate with external counsel on litigation and regulatory investigations

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal support to the banking operations division
  • Review loan documentation and security packages
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update internal policies
  • Liaise with SIB on supervisory matters and examinations

Requirements

  • Licenciatura en Ciencias Juridicas y Sociales from a recognised university
  • Colegiado activo with the Colegio de Abogados y Notarios de Guatemala
  • 4-6 years experience in banking law (private practice or in-house)
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of SIB regulations, AML/CFT requirements, and Junta Monetaria resolutions
