Alongside caring colleagues and supportive leaders, Legal Assistants provide a broad range of organizational and general workplace support to legal professionals within TD Legal Department.

As a Legal Assistant, you'll provide dedicated support for several legal professionals at TD. You'll also provide a wide range of administrative or general workplace support for the broader team as assigned.

Job Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will support members of the Canadian Banking Legal team, to provide administrative support on a wide variety of file engagements, projects, initiatives, events and meeting coordination, including primary administrative functions such as:   

  • Provide accurate, organized, efficient and effective administrative support (e.g., word processing, prepare various spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, collect and track data, research information, schedule/organize meetings, manage calendars, create and maintain electronic legal files, managing matters including billings and travel, etc.). 

  • Apply broad general or specialized legal knowledge in the compilation and/or preparation of correspondence and legal documents.  

  • Use discretion in managing matters, escalating issues to legal professionals as appropriate. 

  • Prioritize and manage own workflow to ensure quality and efficiency; meet deadlines; be flexible in adjusting to changing work priorities. 

  • Collaborate with other administrative assistants on the team and across the Legal Department on a variety of tasks supporting different lawyers depending on the needs of the Department.  

  • Take initiative to identify and recommend improvements in own job functions. 

  • Use software programs and other departmental tools or equipment at the level required to efficiently and effectively provide appropriate documents and information required by legal professionals. 

  • Respond promptly and thoroughly to requests for information. 

  • Communicate effectively and confidently at senior levels on a regular basis. 

  • Apply sound knowledge of legal concepts, principles, terminology and procedures. 

  • Provide vacation and temporary coverage for colleagues, supporting additional professionals.

Job Requirements:

What You Need to Succeed

  • High school diploma with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience 

  • Extensive knowledge of applications (Co-Pilot, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)  

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with flexibility to coordinate processes and information across related teams 

  • Proven track record in supporting and performing Legal Assistant tasks supporting a number of individuals at one time 

  • Ability to collaborate with other Legal Assistants, in addition to internal and external partners 

  • Can perform efficiently in a multi-task environment and ensure deadlines are met 

  • Can efficiently interpret TD policies and help executives apply these standards in a fast-changing environment 

  • Experience coordinating travel arrangements and comfortable managing frequent changes 

  • Strong organizational skillset to manage accountabilities while simultaneously managing professionals' administrative requirements 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen actively, ask questions and communicate effectively   

  • Strong judgment skills to support initiatives and apply discretion when working with confidential information
