Job Description

About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a talented Fully Qualified Spanish Lawyer to join our People Team as an Employment Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal advice to the organization on all employment-related aspects of our business in Spain and other international markets. This role will support our business while ensuring compliance with EU and Spanish regulations, and other relevant international employment laws. You will collaborate with our People team, senior management and relevant other business leaders as well as our employee representatives to develop pragmatic solutions and manage employment-related risks effectively.


In this Role, You Will:

  • Provide Expert Advice: Provide expert legal advice on Spanish employment law, including hiring, termination, contracts, collective bargaining agreements, works council matters, social security regulations, and other related topics.
  • Support International Employment Matters: Offer guidance and support on employment law matters in other international markets, such as Italy, France and Netherlands as needed, working with local counsel when necessary.
  • Collaborate with our employee representations, such SEC in France or our SE Works Councils.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations, and proactively identify and mitigate legal risks.
  • Manage Employment Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, severance agreements, and other employment-related contracts.
  • Handle Disputes: Manage and resolve employment-related disputes, including litigation, mediation, and negotiations.
  • Develop Policies: Develop and implement internal policies and procedures related to employment law.
  • Conduct Training: Provide training and education to the People team and management on relevant employment law topics.
  • Coordinate External Counsel: Coordinate with and manage external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Strategic Guidance: Provide strategic legal advice to the People team and management on employment-related decisions and initiatives.
  • Support International Hiring: Support the company’s international hiring efforts by providing guidance on legal requirements in various jurisdictions, with a strong focus on Spain.
  • Stay Updated: Monitor changes in employment law in Spain and relevant international markets, and advise the organization accordingly.

What You Need to Be Successful:

  • You have completed your legal studies in Spain (Master's degree) and successfully passed the Spanish bar examination, which is a mandatory requirement for this role. International experience, such as an LL.M. or relevant work experience abroad, will be considered a strong asset.
  • You have already gained successful professional experience in a reputable law firm or legal department (3 or more years).
  • Ideally, you have experience with international employment law.
  • You are a fluent Spanish and English speaker; you possess outstanding writing skills in both Spanish and English.
  • You are hands-on and eager to tackle new topics, demonstrating a quick grasp and experience in conceptual project work and project management.
  • You will be an ideal addition to the team, bringing very good interpersonal skills, pragmatic thinking, and a zest for action.
  • You are a team player and can work with a high degree of autonomy.
