Senior Avocat – EU Competition & Antitrust
Linklaters' Brussels office in the European Quarter near the Schuman roundabout is seeking an experienced avocat to join its market-leading EU Competition and Antitrust practice.
Brussels is the global capital of competition law enforcement. You will advise multinational corporations, sovereign entities, and industry associations on the most significant EU merger control proceedings before DG Competition, Article 101/102 TFEU cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, and state aid matters before the European Commission.
What You Will Do
- Lead EU merger control notifications and Phase I/Phase II proceedings before DG Competition
- Represent clients in European Commission cartel investigations, including dawn raids, settlement procedures, and leniency applications
- Advise on abuse of dominance cases and Article 102 TFEU enforcement
- Prepare appeals before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)
- Advise on EU state aid rules and Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR) notifications
- Supervise and mentor junior avocats and stagiaires

Responsibilities
- Lead EU merger notifications and manage relationships with DG Competition case teams
- Represent clients in cartel defence proceedings and leniency applications
- Draft submissions to the European Commission, General Court, and CJEU
- Advise on competition compliance programmes and antitrust risk assessments
- Contribute to business development and maintain key client relationships
- Mentor junior team members and supervise stagiaires during their stage
Requirements
- Admission to the Belgian Bar (Barreau de Bruxelles/Balie van Brussel) or equivalent EU qualification required
- Master in Law from a recognized Belgian or European university (UCLouvain, ULB, KU Leuven, UGent preferred)
- 7-12 years of post-qualification experience in EU competition law
- Proven track record in European Commission merger control and cartel proceedings
- Fluent in English and French or Dutch; trilingual (EN/FR/NL) is a strong advantage
- LL.M. from a leading international university or College of Europe (Bruges) preferred
- Deep knowledge of Articles 101/102 TFEU, EU Merger Regulation (EUMR), and DG Competition procedures
