Job Description

Schoenherr Sofia is seeking a Senior Lawyer to join its Energy & Natural Resources practice group. Bulgaria's evolving energy market — driven by EU Green Deal targets, renewable energy expansion, and gas diversification — creates significant demand for specialized legal advice. The successful candidate will advise energy companies, investors, and government entities on regulatory, transactional, and project finance matters in the Bulgarian energy sector.

Responsibilities

Advising on regulatory approvals, licensing, and grid connection for energy projects; Structuring and negotiating power purchase agreements (PPAs) and energy trading contracts; Advising on acquisitions and financing of renewable energy assets (solar, wind, biomass); Supporting clients with EWRC regulatory proceedings and tariff disputes; Advising on gas supply, storage, and LNG terminal projects; Monitoring EU and Bulgarian energy legislative developments; Coordinating with Schoenherr offices across CEE on regional energy mandates.

Requirements

Master's degree in Law; Admission to the Sofia Bar Association with minimum 7 years of energy law experience; Deep knowledge of the Energy Act, Renewable Energy Act, and Bulgarian energy regulatory framework (EWRC); Understanding of EU energy legislation including the Clean Energy Package; Experience with PPAs, concession agreements, and energy project financing; Fluent English and German required; Strong commercial and strategic advisory skills.
