Job Description

Senior Legal Counsel – ESG & Sustainability

Ørsted, the world's largest offshore wind developer, headquartered in the Hellerup business district near Copenhagen, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for ESG and Sustainability. Ørsted's transformation from a fossil fuel company to a renewable energy leader makes it a global benchmark for sustainable business, and its legal team is at the forefront of navigating the rapidly evolving ESG regulatory landscape.

You will advise on the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), EU Taxonomy alignment, supply chain due diligence, and Denmark's implementation of sustainability regulation.

What You Will Do

  • Advise on CSRD compliance and European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) implementation
  • Ensure EU Taxonomy alignment for Ørsted's renewable energy activities and green bond framework
  • Advise on the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and supply chain obligations
  • Handle ESG-related regulatory interactions with Erhvervsstyrelsen and Finanstilsynet
  • Advise on greenwashing risk and sustainable finance regulation (SFDR)
  • Support Ørsted's Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments from a legal perspective

Responsibilities

  • Lead ESG and sustainability legal advisory across the group
  • Manage CSRD compliance and sustainability reporting legal review
  • Advise on supply chain due diligence obligations
  • Support green finance and sustainable bond transactions
  • Monitor and advise on global ESG regulatory developments

Requirements

  • Cand.jur. from a Danish university or equivalent qualification; LL.M. in Environmental or EU Law preferred
  • 7-10 years of experience in environmental law, ESG, corporate governance, or sustainability regulation
  • Knowledge of CSRD, EU Taxonomy, CSDDD, and SFDR frameworks
  • Fluent in English; Danish is preferred
  • Experience in the energy sector or with renewable energy companies is an advantage
  • Understanding of climate science frameworks (SBTi, GHG Protocol) is desirable
