Job Description
Wise, the global technology company building the best way to move money around the world, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Regulatory team in Tallinn. As a company headquartered in Estonia with an Estonian banking license, Wise operates at the cutting edge of fintech regulation.
You will advise on compliance with the Krediidiasutuste seadus (Credit Institutions Act), Makseasutuste ja e-raha asutuste seadus (Payment Institutions and E-Money Institutions Act), and EU financial regulations including PSD2/PSD3, EMD2, and MiCA. The role involves close interaction with Finantsinspektsioon and the European Central Bank.
Responsibilities
Advise on regulatory compliance for Wise's global operations under Estonian and EU financial law. Lead engagement with Finantsinspektsioon and ECB on regulatory matters and examinations. Analyze the impact of new EU regulations (PSD3, MiCA, DORA) on Wise's business model. Draft regulatory submissions, license applications, and policy responses. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to build compliance into new features.
Requirements
Oigusteaduse magister or equivalent law degree. 6-9 years of experience in financial regulation, fintech, or banking law. Expert knowledge of Estonian and EU payment services regulation. Experience with Finantsinspektsioon or ECB regulatory interactions. Understanding of open banking, e-money, and crypto-asset regulation. Fluent in English; Estonian is a strong advantage.
