Job Description
Spotify's Stockholm headquarters is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for its Music Rights & Licensing team. You will negotiate and manage Spotify's music licensing agreements with major and independent labels, publishers, and collecting societies including STIM (Swedish Performing Rights Society) and SAMI, applying upphovsrättslagen (Swedish Copyright Act) and EU Copyright Directive (CDSM).
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate and manage licensing agreements with record labels, publishers, and distributors globally
- Advise on upphovsrättslagen (Copyright Act, SFS 1960:729) and EU Copyright Directive (CDSM/DSM Directive) implementation
- Handle STIM, SAMI, and international collecting society royalty negotiations and disputes
- Advise on podcast and audiobook content licensing, user-generated content, and safe harbour provisions
- Support Spotify's policy positions on EU copyright reform and Swedish implementation
Requirements
- Law degree; 6-10 years PQE in copyright, entertainment, or media law
- Experience with music industry licensing and collecting society negotiations
- Knowledge of upphovsrättslagen, EU CDSM Directive, and international copyright frameworks
- Fluent in English; Swedish valued
