Senior Legal Counsel — Nuclear & Environmental Law

Vattenfall's West Sweden operations near Gothenburg are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel specialising in nuclear and environmental law. Sweden operates six nuclear reactors (Forsmark and Ringhals), and Vattenfall is responsible for their operation, safety compliance, and eventual decommissioning. This role, based in Gothenburg with travel to Ringhals, is critical for nuclear regulatory compliance and environmental permitting.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on compliance with kärntekniklagen (Nuclear Activities Act) and Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten (SSM — Swedish Radiation Safety Authority) regulations
• Handle environmental permits for nuclear facilities under miljöbalken and Mark- och miljödomstolen (Land and Environment Court) proceedings
• Manage nuclear waste disposal legal framework including kärnavfallsfonden (Nuclear Waste Fund) obligations
• Advise on nuclear decommissioning planning and regulatory approvals
• Support new build and Small Modular Reactor (SMR) feasibility assessments

Requirements

• Swedish juristexamen; 6-10 years PQE in nuclear, environmental, or energy law
• Knowledge of kärntekniklagen, SSM regulations, and miljöbalken
• Experience with Mark- och miljödomstolen proceedings preferred
• Swedish security clearance eligible
