Job Description
PBP seeks a Junior Associate for its Intellectual Property practice in Quito. Ecuador's IP framework is governed by the Código Orgánico de la Economía Social de los Conocimientos (COESCCI, or Código Ingenios) and administered by SENADI (Servicio Nacional de Derechos Intelectuales).
The role involves trademark prosecution, patent filings, copyright registration, and enforcement actions. PBP's IP team handles portfolios for major consumer brands, pharmaceutical companies, and technology firms operating in the Ecuadorian market.
Responsibilities
- Filing and prosecuting trademark applications before SENADI
- Conducting trademark searches and preparing availability opinions
- Handling opposition and cancellation proceedings
- Assisting with patent applications and utility model registrations
- Preparing cease-and-desist letters and coordinating enforcement actions with SENADI and customs authorities
Requirements
- Título de Abogado from a recognised Ecuadorian university
- Registered with the Foro de Abogados del Ecuador
- 1-3 years of experience in intellectual property law
- Knowledge of the Código Ingenios (COESCCI) and SENADI procedures
- Familiarity with Andean Community Decision 486 on industrial property
- Working English for international trademark prosecution
