Position Overview
Job Description
PBP's Tax & Customs practice is seeking a mid-level Associate to advise clients on Ecuador's complex tax landscape. The position involves counselling on the Ley de Régimen Tributario Interno, Código Tributario, and the Código Orgánico de la Producción, Comercio e Inversiones (COPCI) as it relates to customs and foreign trade.
Ecuador's dollarised economy and recent tax reforms — including the Ley Orgánica para el Fortalecimiento de la Economía Familiar — create a dynamic advisory environment. You will work alongside PBP's corporate and energy teams on structured transactions and cross-border planning.
Responsibilities
- Advising on corporate income tax, VAT (IVA), and withholding tax obligations under the LRTI
- Handling tax disputes and administrative proceedings before the SRI and Tribunal Distrital de lo Fiscal
- Structuring cross-border transactions with tax-efficient frameworks
- Advising on customs classifications, tariffs, and SENAE procedures under COPCI
- Preparing transfer pricing documentation and defending clients in SRI audits
Requirements
- Título de Abogado from a recognised Ecuadorian university
- Registered with the Foro de Abogados del Ecuador
- 3-6 years of experience in tax law, customs, or international trade
- Strong knowledge of the Código Tributario, LRTI, and SRI administrative procedures
- Experience with tax litigation before the Tribunal Distrital de lo Fiscal
- English proficiency required for international client matters
